Early menopause occurs between the age of 40 and 45. It can occur spontaneously because of early failure by the ovaries or it can be caused surgically when you have your ovaries removed. Chemotherapy can also cause this condition. This condition can lead to several distressing physical and psychological symptoms. It can affect your health as well as your well-being.

One symptom of this condition is changes in the monthly cycle. The monthly cycle is determined by the ovaries which produce the sex hormones; estrogen and progesterone. When going through this stage, you will experience hormone imbalances that may lead to monthly periods coming either too early or getting delayed.

Another symptom of early menopause is mood swings. The hormonal imbalances can alter your emotional state leading to mood swings, aggressive behavior and even depression. During this phase, you will experience an increased frequency and intensity in both PMS and cramps. This condition can also lead to sleep problems which may lead to low energy and fatigue.

Less vaginal lubrication may occur leading to vaginal dryness. You may also experience loss of interest in sex. A drop in estrogen level can also lead to growth of hair in unwanted areas. In other cases however, it can lead to hair loss. Hormone replacement therapy or HRT relieves some of the symptoms associated with early menopause. This therapy involves supplementing the body with either estrogen alone or a combination of both estrogen and progesterone.  This type of therapy can also help prevent osteoporosis.
