Endometreosis is a type of medical condition that some females suffer from. This involves the uterus growing outside of it. That is a problem because a female should be able to shed the lining each month through the menstrual cycle. Yet this isn't possible for the growth outside of it. What occurs though is that it gets into the vital organs of the body. This is a very serious condition as it can result in them swelling and becoming inflamed.
As a result of Endometreosis, there is scar tissue that develops. This can prevent a woman from being able to conceive a baby. For others it can prevent them from being able to carry it to turn. This tissue can also prevent a baby from developing properly. Since the age group affected is from 25 to 40 years of age, plenty of women that want to have children are affected by Endometreosis. It is believed that the menstrual cycle plays a role in it though because this doesn't develop in girls that aren't in puberty or women that have gone through menopause.
There have been some studies that indicate women with a period that lasts more than five days is more susceptible to developing Endometreosis. Those that have irregular cycles that are less than 27 days long also have a higher risk. It is very important for women to get annual exams so that such problems can be detected. The extra tissue can end up affecting the kidneys, lungs, ovaries, uterus, and fallopian tubes.
Many women experience pain when they suffer from Endometriosis due to the inflammation and swelling. Ovarian cysts are also very common and they can create severe health problems as well. These cysts can be extremely small but some of them can be as large as a grapefruit. Early detection is important when it comes to stopping the progression of it.
In order to determine if this medical condition exists, a doctor will have to perform a pelvic exam. If there is a good chance that it is present a minor surgery may be scheduled known as a Laparoscopy. This allows a scope to be inserted into the woman through the abdomen. The internal organs can be explored in this manner to determine if there is Endometreosis and the extent of it.
Depending on the diagnosis there are a number of different treatment options that can be considered. Reducing pain and inflammation is often the first course of action. That way the woman can be more comfortable. Over the counter products often don't work so prescription medications will have to be evaluated.
Hormonal therapy and surgery are other options that may be considered. It will depend on the woman's age, the degree of the Endometreosis, and what parts of the body are being affected by it. Some women also consider alternative medicine such as additional vitamins in order to help them control it.
