Even though pregnancy is not a huge concern for a lot of menopausal women, panic attacks can be. In fact, panic attacks are one of the most common perimenopausal and menopausal negative side effects. Panic attacks are experienced by a lot of different people during different periods of their life. It is totally normal to have feelings of anxiousness, nervousness, or unnecessary worry, but the difference is that a panic attack makes a person feel overwhelmed with these negative feelings.

What’s the cause of panic attacks during menopause? Women who are going through menopause are more susceptible to panic attacks because the hormones are in a state of constant flux, while the body prepares to put an end to the reproductive system. During this time, while the hormones are raging, women suffer from depression and unnecessarily high stress levels. There has been some evidence to show that these depressions are caused because of a lack of estrogen. Panic attacks and anxiety is usually a symptom of depression.

A lot of research has been pointing to a hormone called progesterone, which also diminishes during menopause, progesterone has had been known to have a very calming and relaxing effect for women. These lack of hormones, allow small occurrences of emotions that were once looked at as minor to be blown way out of proportion.

Making corrective lifestyle changes can put a huge relief on women suffering from panic attacks and menopause. Menopause is a stepping stone for a new path in your life.
