The physical and emotional symptoms of menopause are caused by imbalances in a woman's sex hormones - not just estrogen but progesterone and testosterone, too. Other hormones, including cortical, insulin and thyroid hormones, also come into play because the sex hormones are interdependent with them. And all of these imbalances are related to diet, lifestyle and genetic factors.

Many women who are going through this change experience mood swings ranging from mild to severe. A sense of loss and uncertainty can also accompany these feelings, as the reproductive cycle is ending a woman may have a sense of impending doom. It is highly recommended that a woman seek consultation if she feels herself obsessing over her negative emotions during this time. A patient and caring friend is also of great assistance. The primary thing for the woman to remember is that she is not alone and it will pass. There is nothing wrong with what is happening to her, it is all part of nature's end to a cycle in one's life.
