The time in a mature woman's life leading up to menopause is known as perimenopause. Perimenopause marks the end of a woman's reproductive years and usually lasts 2 to 15 years, depending on onset. This period of time includes a variety of emotional symptoms which, if left untreated, can cause a great deal of distress for a woman.

Depression - Hormonal imbalances during perimenopause can lead to depression in some women. Sadness, lack of interest in activities that are usually pleasurable and enjoyed and frequent fatigue can all be signs of depression in the perimenopausal woman.
