How long does menopause last? This very question has been the main discussion between women and their doctors since the beginning of time. Menopause can be an overwhelming time period in your life but, due to genetics, health, and overall lifestyle of each specific woman, every answer is different.

Time Period
Instead of giving you the run around, I will tell you that most women deal with menopause anywhere from a 2 year to a 10 year span. Menopause will most likely occur between your mid-40s and 50s however, some women can get it earlier than that.

Symptoms
In a few rare cases, some women don’t undergo any symptoms. If you’re not luckily any of those women, you can suffer from night sweats, urinary changes, hot flashes, weight gain, depression, vaginal dryness, and mood swings. Some women will suffer from only one, while others can suffer from every last one of them.

What You Can Do Now
Red Clover is great for reducing hormone imbalances and it basically serves as a hormone replacement. Black Cohosh is another extremely effective supplement for reducing mood swings, hot flashes, and night sweats, much like Red Clover. Both of these natural supplements are safe however, I would recommend consulting a doctor before taking any. As stated above, every woman is different, therefore, even natural supplements like the two mentioned above can have minor side effects.

Recap
If you’re anywhere between the ages of 35 and 50 and you’re experiencing these symptoms, the<div

You also want to make sure to add more vegetables high in zinc to your diet while getting sufficient exercise.

Overall, my top recommendation combines black cohosh, damaiana, vitamin E, with other natural ingredients & comes with an online weight loss membership.

Sounds pretty good! Menopause generally occurs between the ages of 45 and 55, though it can occur as early as 35 or as late as 65 years of age.

Dr Marilyn Glenville, an expert on the menopause, says, “At the time of menopause, a women still produces estrogen but not sufficient to prepare her womb for pregnancy. Levels of progesterone plummet or disappear completely. The ovaries continue to produce small quantities of estrogen for at least 12 years after the onset of the menopause.”

For most women the menopause happens in three phases. Firstly comes perimenopause when you still have periods but they may become heavier or lighter, and symptoms such as hot flushes can appear. Then comes menopause when ovarian function decline, and periods stop. The last phase is called post-menopause, which begins 12 months after your last period.

Throughout this time, many signs associated with ageing can appear as the hormonal balance alters with the drop in estrogen and progesterone levels. Skin is more likely to wrinkle, there can be growth of facial hair and a thinning of hair in the temple region. Muscles lose some strength and tone, and many women suffer hot flushes and insomnia. Your joints may begin to ache and bones can become more brittle, increasing the risk of osteoporosis.

Vaginal dryness often results from these hormonal changes. The vaginal wall also becomes thinner and blood flow

is restricted. Dryness can make sexual intercourse painful or uncomfortable and can lead to irritation and increased risk for infection. You will be happy to note that having regular sexual intercourse increases blood flow into the vagina.

Loss of bladder tone, which can result in stress incontinence (leaking urine when you cough, sneeze, laugh or exercise), can also result.

You may also experience a whole host of emotional ups and downs, one minute feeling on top of the world and the next in the pits of despair. The good news is that by eating the right diet, taking the right supplements, doing some exercise and using natural hormone replacements – virtually all these symptoms can be alleviated.

I do not advocate taking orthodox hormone replacement therapy (HRT) because of the increased risk of high blood pressure, weight gain, gall bladder and liver problems, not to mention breast and endometrial (uterine) cancers. The increased health risks of orthodox HRT have now been shown to far out-weigh the benefits. Yes, it slows the rate of bone loss, but only while you are taking it. Also, if you are under a lot of stress at this time, adrenal function is greatly affected. Healthy adrenal glands continue to supply post-menopausal women with estrogen. But if you are stressed, then your adrenal glands are kept busy pumping the stress hormone cortisol and less estrogen is made.

Wendy recently started experiencing the signs of early menopause and was determined not to give in to her doctors suggestions that she start taking synthetic HRT to deal with the symptoms. Instead she did her own research on natural hormone replacement and natural progesterone cream. She’s very pleased to report that both these natural options have helped tremendously in relieving her symptoms without having any adverse affect on her health.

No related posts.

How Long Does Menopause Last?

How Long Does Menopause Last

People

Periods

Pre Menopause

Second Stage

Transition
<guid

The reason this question is so important is because menopause seems endless. To anyone who has not or will not experience, it may not seem like an important issue. However any woman who has been experiencing the symptoms of menopause for more than a few months are likely already fed up with it. Unfortunately, there is no way to tell how long menopause will last for you. There is just know way to know for sure. It all depends on you as an individual. The only thing you can really do is think about your mother and grandmothers. How long did menopause last for them? That is the one possible guideline you can look to for answers.

It may seem outlandish to think menopause can last for years and years. That is because most women use the word menopause to describe the whole process. That is not right. Menopause is a very specific period of time. It is only one stage out of three, sometimes four. Some women go through only three stages, some go through four, others go through more.

Pre menopause is the first stage. Sometimes it is used interchangeably with perimenopause. Sometimes they are considered separate stages. It really all depends on your doctor. He or she may consider it the same as perimenopause. He or she might consider pre menopause the period of life when you start menstruating irregularly.

So, perimenopause may be considered that stage, or the second stage of menopause. For the purposes of this

article, we are going to use the two terms interchangeably because their fundamentals are the same. Transition is the key aspect of pre menopause. Most people define it as beginning when your periods become erratic and ending after you have been without a period for an entire twelve months. The real point is that there is no set amount of time for pre menopause to last. It can last as little as four years. It can go on as many as ten years. It can fall anywhere in between. There is just no real way to tell.

No matter how long it lasts, it does begin when your hormones start to go a little crazy. Their levels fluctuate wildly, gradually tapering off altogether. You start menstruating irregularly because your body begins producing less estrogen. Your ovulation schedule starts becoming more irregular as well. You begin to have hot flashes and night sweats. Mood swings start to take hold during this period of time. You can also experience insomnia and exhaustion, irritability, and you can start to become depressed.

As stated, menopause is a specific term. You have not experienced menopause itself until you have gone an entire year without menstruating even once. You have to go twelve entire months without bleeding at all. After you have done so, you will not have a period again. You are no longer fertile, so conceiving is an impossibility.

Post menopause describes, basically, the rest of your life. It begins after that final period and lasts, succinctly, as long as you yourself do. Approximately a year afterwards, give or take, you will stop experiencing the symptoms of menopause.

Answers to questions like How Long Does Menopause Last? The simple, but true answers to all of these questions is that it varies from woman to woman, but, over the years, researchers have attempted to come up with some averages.

When a woman’s periods become irregular, she is between the ages of 45 and 55 and the irregularities are not due to any other medical problems, she is said to be going through menopause. When a woman has not had a menstrual period for 12 consecutive months, there are no more eggs in the ovaries, she can no longer become pregnant and she is said to be postmenopausal. The average age for the onset of menopause is 51.

About 50% of all women experience hot flashes at some point. About 10% experience them in the years preceding menopause and the percentage increases as menopause approaches. More than 50% of all women experience hot flashes in the three years following menopause. Technically the answer to “how long does menopause last” is one year. During that year a woman can still become pregnant, if she is sexually active. But, symptoms related to menopause may be experienced for five, six, seven years or more.

Surveys of women who chose not to use hormone replacement therapy or other treatment options indicate that as many as 56% of all women experience five or more different symptoms during t<div

When a woman becomes postmenopausal and during the year that her periods have stopped, surveys indicate that all women experience at least one symptom. The most common symptoms, other than menstrual changes, are hot flashes, vaginal dryness, night sweats, trouble sleeping, headaches and lack of energy. Not all women experience all of these symptoms and some women experience others. Some symptoms may not be directly related to menopause, but the most common ones probably are.

The first place to go for information about menopause is your doctor. Hopefully, you have a good relationship with him or her and you can discuss any concerns that you may have. The North American Menopause Society publishes a helpful booklet for women concerning symptoms and treatment options. It is available on-line and can be found in many women’s clinics. It has many answers for women saying, <a

But as I think you have already worked out this is not the case (Most of the time).

The question of “How Long Does Menopause Last?” must be one of the more common questions your local doctor gets asked. So I have decided to do a bit of research and find out what the world has to contribute on this matter.

From my hours of research on the net(and I mean hours) I have come to a few conclusions. The first one is that Menopause is such an individual happening that it does not follow an exact rhyme or reason to when it starts or when it stops. For example a lady over in New Zealand gave birth at 63. If we followed a set ruling about when menopause would happen this would not have been the case.

My second learning on this question was what is an average time frame for menopause to last. Even though this does change quite considerably between women. Menopause can last as long as 4 to 5 years. But there really is no strong evidence to support this theory as of yet.

Now the Good News.

I have found the 3 top ways to hopefully shorten how long menopause will last. It is not rocket science but does show promising signs.

Step 1 Use Herbal Supplements like Black Cohosh and Chaste Tree Berry which are meant to help your body deal with the changes. This is a must when going through Menopause.

Step 2<div

All seeds and their unrefined oils are rich in essential fatty adds which also help reduce joint pain, risk of heart disease.

Foods from the brassica vegetable family also help protect against estrogen-sensitive cancers, including breast cancer and cervix cancer, and balance hormones.

It’s a fact that every woman faces at some time or other in her life – menopause or “the change”. Menopause represents going from a reproductive phase to a non reproductive phase and the menopause symptoms and how to face menopause and its symptoms are of immediate concern to women going through this phase.

Menopause symptoms vary from woman to woman. Menopause is different for each woman but the usual symptoms include hot flashes, mood swings, vaginal dryness, fatigue, hair and skin changes, menopause weight gain, etc. Long term issues include osteoporosis and vascular and heart disease.

The transition to menopause or perimenopause involving the change in reproductive life involves the experience of menstrual cycles that are shorter or longer than usual which results from the significant fluctuations of the secretion of ovarian hormones during this time. The transition usually begins at 47.5 but can be as early as the late thirties or early forties. This varies women to women.

You may have asked yourself, if I have to go through this unpleasant phase, how long does menopause last? Perimenopause lasts for an average of 4 to 8 years. Women will experience emotional and physical changes for a number of years before they reach menopause. Menopause is the period from the last menstrual cycle and the twelve months after this last period. This usually occurs at about 51 years of age.

The length that menopause symptoms last vary from woman to woman and are due to the changes in hormones and the imbalance in the body.

Mood swings affect approximately 10% of the women going through this transition. These mood swings are characterized by drastic changes in mood over a very short time period such as laughing one minute then crying or yelling next and then falling into a depression the very next moment. A lot of these women seek solutions from traditional medicine however, more and more women are looking to natural or holistic remedies for these mood swings.

Less than 10% of women go through menopause without having some change in their menstrual cycle. Besides periods being shorter or longer than usual, the blood flow may become lighter or heavier. Birth control is usually prescribed to cause periods to become more regular.

One of the most taxing symptoms are the hot flashes experienced during this period. These begin either during the pre-menopausal stages of peri menopause or after the woman has her last menstruation. When the hot flash starts, women may feel tense, agitated, anxious and unsettled as well as have heart palpitations.

Hot flashes are usually at their worst during the first year following the last menstrual cycle. The physical manifestation of the hot flash is the skin turning pink or red as well as sweating. The severity varies from mild to very severe and some women may experience chills soon after the hot flash.

A lot of women experience the majority of their hot flashes at night which may lead to insomnia while other women experience difficulty sleeping even without hot flashes. Most women will sleep for a few hours, wake up and not be able to go back to sleep. Some women also complain about having difficulty concentrating, short term memory loss during the transition which may be due to lower estrogen level although others think that this is due to the aging process.

This transition is very stressful and affects women differently. Some women will show all the signs of menopause while others will only experience mild symptoms. It is important for each woman going through the transition to find ways to alleviate her symptoms and enjoy a full and productive life during and after menopause.

Although traditional medicine offers many solutions, more and more women are looking for natural remedies that will <a

Questions like, “What age does menopause start?” and, “How long does menopause last?” are fairly common in the middle years. Most women are looking for an idea of what to expect, and when.
One of the things that make it confusing – as well as being difficult to answer – is the terminology used by medical professionals. So first, let me explain some of those terms in plain English.
Technically, menopause is the last period that a woman ever has, but that can only be determined after the fact.

During the years leading up to that last period, menstruation is often erratic. It’s not unusual for a woman to miss several periods, and then have another. The flow may be heavier or lighter.
Spotting is also common during this time. But since spotting can indicate a medical problem, it’s important to have regular Pap smears and follow the check-up schedule that your doctor prescribes for you.

After a woman has gone a full year without having a period, she is said to be “post-menopausal”

The term “pre-menopause” is used to describe the time leading up to the last period, when periods are often irregular and other symptoms, such as hot flashes, may appear

The term “peri-menopause” is used to describe the time before, during and after the last period

Now, that you understand those terms, let’s look at what age menopause starts, on average.

In Western societies the average age of the last period is 51. In d

eveloping countries, the median age is 44. When the last period occurs between the age of 55 and 60, it is considered “late-menopause.” If it occurs between the ages of 45 and 50, it is considered “early.”

The answer to how long does menopause last? Well technically, it is a single day – the last day of the last period.

But if you’re wondering how long the symptoms last, that’s quite a different matter, not dependent on the age that menopause begins.

Women can begin to feel the effects of lowering hormonal levels as early as age 35. However, women that are in good health may never experience any symptoms at all, except, of course, that they stop having their periods.

Women who are not in the best of health (or perhaps don’t know about natural supplements that reduce symptoms) may tell you that menopause lasts 10 years or more. I had a friend once say to me, “Honey, it lasts the rest of your life.”

On the other end of the spectrum are women that never paid any attention to how long does menopause last, because they never had any unwanted symptoms.

If you smoke and you want to know what age menopause starts, you can expect it a little earlier than average. You are also more likely to have hot flashes and other unwanted symptoms.

If you have older female relatives, you may be able to guesstimate how long does menopause last, by asking them how long they had symptoms. However, there really is no sure way to determine ahead of time at what age will menopause start.

But no matter when menopause begins or how long it lasts for you, it is possible to avoid the undesirable symptoms with a good diet, appropriate supplements, and healthy lifestyle.

Sherri Stockman is a Naturopathic Practitioner who is learning first-hand about the joys of menopause.

When they first find out they have the symptoms, many women want to know – how long does menopause last? Each year many thousands of women start to have these symptoms, so they want to know more.

Since the average age of menopause is 51 in American women, that leaves quite a few years for most women to go through the symptoms. These symptoms can start to appear as early as the mid to late-thirties even in some cases, but normally not until the mid-forties. Maybe your symptoms will start slowly with more irregular periods, or just the few hot flashes here and there. But in most women they will progress to digestive problems, insomnia, heart palpitations, thinning hair, dry skin, and mood problems.

Depending on the severity of the symptoms, you may seek treatment earlier or later, but at some point most women search for some relief. A natural solution to menopause is one that can offer more relief with few side effects, which is becoming more of a standard these days. Since the “old-fashioned” way of treating menopause symptoms is to simply boost estrogen levels with a prescription, these days it isn’t the best option.

The reason this isn’t the best treatment any longer is that it is now realized that each woman has a different hormone “profile” that needs an individual approach to treatment. The main hormones that are out of balance are estrogen, progesterone, and testosterone. Yes, even women have some testosterone, although only about 1/10th as much as a man. It is needed to keep the libido in check<div

There are herbs that can natural stimulate or replace the hormones in the body, some which can mimic the bodies hormones very closely. These hormones include: black cohosh (for night sweats and hot flashes), dong quai (for vaginal dryness), kava kava (for mood improvement, lowers stress) and also ginseng, which has been known to help mood swings and overall health.

Another natural product many women are finding helpful these days is natural progesterone cream, which is used to help ease many of the symptoms common to menopause by boosting the hormone missing most, progesterone. This hormone is a pre-cursor to the biosynthesis of other hormones in the body. The good news is that natural progesterone cream can be purchased many places without any prescription, since it is a natural product.

There are many <a
